General Rules for Advertising on Yahoo!
Approval
All advertisements are subject to Yahoo!’s approval prior to placement on the site. Yahoo! does not review the contents of any advertisements, however, Yahoo! may check advertisements for technical compliance with our specifications. Display of an advertisement by Yahoo! does not mean that Yahoo! accepts that such advertisement is provided in accordance with our Advertising Terms and Conditions. Yahoo! reserves the right to preserve the user experience of its sites, and reserves the right to remove any Advertisement which is deemed annoying and/or harmful to our users at any time.
Borders on Ads
All inline ads should have a clearly visible border, either solid colour or 1 pixel line
Looping/Animation
Yahoo! allows animation in ad units to a limit of 15 seconds. On all properties other than the homepage Yahoo! has no looping restriction except in cases where it may annoy our users. If you are concerned about this issue please contact your sales representative for details.
Rapidly strobing animation can cause discomfort in users - Yahoo! reserves the right to refuse ads that contain extremely rapid transitions and effects.
Audio in Ads
Audio stream must be initiated by user click. No mouseover starts.
Audio stream may not exceed 30 seconds.
Audio must be encoded at volume less than or equal to -12 db.
All Ads must have clearly visible stop and start audio controls.
Linking URL
Linking URLs must be domain name based and cannot be the IP address, ie. http://207.123.456.78 is not allowed, but http://www.iloveturtles.com is allowed.
Plug-In Behaviour
Users must never be prompted to download a plug-in. If plug-in is not available, then an alternative image must be served.
Misleading Ads
Advertisements cannot mislead the user. For example, they may not mimic or resemble Windows/Mac/Unix dialogue boxes, error messages, or the like.
Examples: Windows OS dialog boxes which say "Deleting hard drive - click to cancel".
Advertisements cannot resemble Yahoo! content.
Advertisements cannot contain graphics that simulate interactivity (i.e. drop down menus, search boxes etc.) without that functionality actually existing.
Advertisements cannot mimic news headlines in design, tone, 3rd person sentence structure, or topic.
User Feedback
Yahoo reserves the right to include user feedback links to survey user’s opinion.
Cookies
Cookies may not be set on the Yahoo! network except by parties with a third party ad serving agreement.
